Genre and Narrative
Within the film industry there is an element called Macro Elements.
Macro refers to the wider elements of films. Such as Genre and Narrative. Genre refers to the 'categories' that the films are placed into.
There are many types of Genre. i have listed some below;

  • Musical
  • Comedy
  • Drama
  • Romance
  • Sci-Fi
  • Mystery
  • Animation
  • Horror
  • Western
  • Thriller
  • Adventure
  • Rom-Com - a mixture of two genres
To name a few. Like above, for Rom-Com, genres can be mixed.

Narrative is a spoken or written account of events. There are two types of Narrative; Linear and Non-Linear.
Linear is when the story of events is told in order, for example, beginning, middle and end.
Films that consist of Linear Narrative are; Toy Story, The Cat in The Hat, Lovely Bones and many more.
Non-Linear is when the story of events is told out of the order, for example, it may start in the middle of the story of events.
Films that consist of Non-Linear Narrative are; Kill Bill Volumes 1&2, We Need To Talk About Kevin and many more.
