AS Media Studies - Preliminary Exercise Evaluation :)

Preliminary Exercise Evaluation
In my Preliminary Exercise, there is a meeting between two men, Reece and Jack. They exchange packages, one containing money and the other drugs. Jack hands over the money to Reece, in an exchange for the drugs. The meeting is complete with a confirmation handshake from both men. Jack leaves with the drugs package. A man and his female accomplice, Dylan and I, walk past Jack exiting the room with his package. Dylan and I, walk into the room. Dylan asks Reece "Do you have the money?', Reece says, "No." Dylan is  aware that this is in fact a lie, and as a result of that pulls out a gun and kills Reece. As Reece is dying, he drops the money package. When he is finally dead, I pick up the money package and hand it to Dylan. Dylan and I, make a swift exit, and then the credits roll.

Within the Preliminary Exercise, we included all the listed shots. For Match On Action, we used this in the scene, when Jack first walks into the room. The camera is first outside the room, filming Jack opening the door and walking in. Then the camera is in the room watching Jack walking in and closing the door. We then use Eye Line Match, when Dylan and I watch Reece die, we have a shot of mine and Dylan's face. Then it cuts to a shot of Reece's dying face, which is what Dylan and I were watching. We included Shot, Reverse Shot into our film , during the meeting between Jack and Reece. When Jack is talking we cut to a shot of his face, and then when Reece speaks we cut to a shot of Reece's face. In our film we included/followed the 180 Degree Rule, throughout the whole, especially when Jack and Reece have their meeting. We ensured that we never crossed the 'line'.

In my opinion, throughout the film we correctly and accurately used all the techniques. Although, I need to better my understanding of the 180 Degree Rule. Also, I think that we could have included the techniques clearer in our task, so I could be certain of the techniques.

In my overall opinion, I believe the editing in our film was particularly pleasing. As well, I think our planning of the film was good, as we stuck to the plan and story. Although, I was pleased with the film, to improve next time I would, film the scenes better. By this I mean, sometimes we messed up a little bit on actually shooting the shots, and so we had to edit some big bits out, for example, once we didn't stop recording straight away, and took quite a while to stop the recording.

In my opinion, this piece was successful as we included all the techniques but perphaps change our cinematographer next time!
